The brand program of China Science Communication of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) launched a special lecture event to celebrate the 54th World Earth Day on April 22, 2023.
The theme of the event was "Cherish and share the beauty of the earth".
The event was under the guidance of the Department of Science Popularization of CAST and the department of science and technology of the Ministry of Natural Resources, and was organized by the China Science and Technology Press, the Publicity and Education Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources, and Beijing Zhongke Xinghe Cultural Media Co., Ltd.
The event invited Sun Li, highly recognized host in the field of Earth knowledge at the Baidu knowledge sharing platform, Su Dechen, researcher of the Institute of Geology of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences (CAGS), and chief science communication expert of natural resources, Li Xinhai, associate researcher of the Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Hong Tianxiang, partner of the Institute of Planets, Shen Leyi, devision director of the office of ecological restoration of Hangzhou Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources in Zhejiang Province, who was also awarded as 2021 Most Beautiful Guardian of Nature, shared stories of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature from the perspectives of scientific principles of Earth movement, geological beauty, observation of the number of Tibetan wild donkeys in Sanjiangyuan region, China geography, and protecting the lucid waters and lush mountains of Qiandao Lake, advocating for the public to protect the Earth respectively.
The event was part of the Starry Sky Lecture sub-program of China Science Communication with the aim to build a platform for Chinese sci-tech professionals to demonstrate their views and affect public opinions.
Since the sub-program was launched in 2022, a total of 10 lecture sessions had been held. 50 experts including academician Ouyang Ziyuan, Chen Junshi, Sun Baoguo, and Fan Daiming had been invited to deliver keynote speeches, with a cumulative dissemination volume of over 45 million person-times.
