On February 14, 2023, the 2023 IUPAC Global Women’s Breakfast in China was held in Beijing, Changchun, Lanzhou, Suzhou, and Hong Kong by the Women in Chemistry Committee, CCS. The theme of this event is “Breaking Barriers in Science”. Prof. Zhigang Shuai, CCS Vice President and IUPAC Executive Committee Member, Prof. Vivian Wing-Wah Yam, CCS Vice President and Director of Women in Chemistry Committee, Prof. Yuliang Zhao, CCS Vice President and Advisor of the Women in Chemistry Committee, and Prof. Xuefeng Fu from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, attended the event opening ceremony and delivered a speech. During the opening ceremony, the five host cities celebrated this global event together via virtual. The opening ceremony was hosted by Deputy Directors of the Women in Chemistry Committee, Prof. Guanghui Ma and Prof. Yanmei Li.

After the video connection event, each host city held offline topic discussion activities respectively, including “leadership development”, “enhancing women’s professional competitiveness and influence”, “work-life balance”, “mentor and mentee relationship”, and “STEM education”. In addition to thematic discussions, the Global Women’s Breakfast also provides a platform for female chemists to share academic, management and technology application experience, so as to help female chemists develop their careers, achieve scientific and technological innovation breakthroughs.
