The Chinese Society for Science and Technology Journalism (CSSTJ) held the 7th National Congress in Beijing in hybrid form of online and on-spot on February 11, 2023. 360 plus representatives across China participated in the event.
150 members of the 7th Council of the CSSTJ were elected by secret ballot, and among whom 50 members were elected as the Standing Committee members of the Council.
Xu Yanhao, former Deputy Secretary of the leading Party members group and Vice President of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) was elected as Chairman of the 7th Council.
Tian Shubin, Liu Shouxun, Liu Yadong, Ren Fujun, Chen Rui, Leng Wensheng, Song Yurong, Zhang Dongchen, Zhou Dejin, Qin Deji, Mei Feng, and Kan Zhaojiang were elected as Vice Chairmen of the 7th Council.
Chen Rui was appointed as Secretary-General and legal representative, and Xu Jiuwu as the consultant of the 7th Council.
In his congratulation speech, Shu Wei, Deputy Secretary of the leading Party members group, full-time Vice President and Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of CAST, noted that the CSSTJ is a mass organization of sci-tech news communicators, an important platform to mobilize all social sectors make innovation of China’s sci-tech news communication cause.
While recognizing CSSTJ’s long-term efforts in publicizing science and technology policy, strengthening science and technology communication, serving scientific decision-making, and enhancing international exchanges, Shu urged all staff members of the CSSTJ to enhance scientific literacy and work competence to tell the stories of China’s sci-tech circles well and make the voice heard globally.
Shu expected the CSSTJ to deepen governance reform, accelerate the construction of a new development pattern, and make continuous efforts to build the society into a home for all sci-tech news communicators in China.
155 national societies and local branches affiliated to CAST congratulated the opening of the 7th National Congress of the CSSTJ.
