A platform (www.kepuri.cn) has been set up to introduce special online activities for 2021 National Science Popularization Day.
The general public can log in the platform to participate in all kinds of science communication activities such as live streaming shows, online lectures, exhibitions and competitions, voting for and soliciting what they like and asking for consultation services and so on.
What is the optimum temperature for the development of Bumblebee mite? What is the largest dinosaur ever discovered by man? What was the animal that won the most votes in the selection of the national bird and the 2008 Olympic mascot? At present, what laws and regulations are effective to manage nature reserves in China?
The above questions come from an “answering questions to win credits” activity contributed by the Wuhua Association for Science and Technology in Yunnan Province.
The activity is a warming up for the upcoming 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15) which will be held in Kunming in the coming October.
Another activity on the platform to arouse the public's awareness of biodiversity protection is a popular science game -- "Jigsaw puzzle to search birds" jointly launched by the Shanghai Science & Technology Museum and a sci-tech enterprise.
The game uses digital technologies to communicate knowledge of birds in a combination form of puzzles, competitions and stories.
What is the surface tension and centrifugal force of water? Why does the faster the air flow, the greater you feel the wind?
The above questions come from a science show moderated by science teachers of the Shawan Road primary school in Chengdu.
The science show has so far attracted more than 186000 online and offline viewers.
“Curiosity makes kids explore the scientific world for underlying relationships. And I hope the science show can light up the curiosity of more kids”, told one of the science teachers to the reporter.
The Wenzhou Science Association has cooperated with Netease Wenzhou and launched a serial of live streaming programs of "Research institute of curiosity".
An adult anchor and a kid anchor guide the online viewers coming to the Pathogen display area of the Wenzhou Science & Technology Museum.
Then the Director of the institute of infectious disease prevention and control of the Wenzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention join them to communicate pathogen knowledge to the visitors and answer online questions, correcting unhealthy lifestyle and teaching how to prevent epidemic.
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic makes online visits to science and technology museums a new trend.
During the 2021 National Science Popularization Day, a platform gathering the 1st batch of 9 online science venues in Shanghai has been initiated.
The platform is expected to provide convenient online VR services and science education programs for science venues nationwide in the future.
The online activities have attracted more young people to participate in this year’s National Science Popularization Day celebration.
And more scientific celebrities were invited to give popular science lectures at the platform. Their plain and popular language communicated complicated natural facts and guided the broad masses of teenagers and educators into a wonderful scientific world.
Sun Yi, China’s pioneer expert in blockchain science, Researcher of the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Director of the blockchain laboratory, was invited to the “China Science Communication · 30 minutes to change the world” program to interact with online and on-spot participants focusing on questions including “What is blockchain”, “Why is it said that the development of blockchain technology will solve social trust crisis”, “How does blockchain technology break the inherent model and optimize the workflow of traditional industries” and “What changes has blockchain technology brought to our lives”.
During the 2021 National Science Popularization Day, a series of lectures of academicians and experts were live streamed.
"I like a saying very much: Look up at the stars and make down-to-earth efforts. In the Internet age, even the most successful business geniuses have many hardships when kickstarting business. It is their perseverance that supports them bear loneliness and poverty to reach final success”, said Wu Hequan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and expert in optical fiber transmission and high-performance broadband network when he shared the stories of the evolution of the Internet, the development of mobile Internet and the rise of industrial Internet in his online lecture.
Wu also talked about the enlightenment brought by Internet and gave his advice to young audiences on professional choice and career perception from his perspective,to help the young participants understand how senior scientists made their choices.
Wu encouraged young people to devote themselves into science cause and make efforts to scaling scientific peaks in the future.
The online science communication activities can reach far-end participants.
Up to now, the number of the participants of the activities has exceeded 6.74 million, and the reading volume of “online Science Popularization Day” on microblog has reached 25.515 million.
The kepuri platform widens service radius and improves utilization efficiency of public science communication resources and turns a new page in the progress of China’s science communication cause.
