The Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology (ZAST) joined hands with the Publicity Department of Zhejiang provincial committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and other provincial departments including that of education, science and technology, natural resources, ecology and environment, water resources, agriculture and rural areas, emergency management, Health Commission of Zhejiang Province and provincial federation of social sciences and launched serial activities at the Zhejiang Science and Technology Museum to celebrate the 2021 National Science Popularization Day on September 10, 2021.
Lu Shan, Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province, Zhou Guohui, Vice Chairman of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and Yao Ke, President of ZAST, attended the event.
Relevant officials and leaders of Zhejiang provincial government, the Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the Education Department of Zhejiang Province and ZAST among other provincial organs attended the event.
The event kicked off in the opening dance "Light of hope". A feature film "Science communication develops in the New Era in Zhejiang" showed the determination and enthusiasm of the organs in promoting the science communication cause in Zhejiang Province to meet the needs of the times. Then the theme song of the 2021 National Science Popularization Day -- “What the world looks like?” was presented to the participants by a children choir.
Science communication serves the goals of achieving “peaking of emissions” and “carbon neutrality”
Zhejiang launched an action program to communicate knowledge about “peaking of emissions” and “carbon neutrality” earlier this year, and Hangzhou set up a service team to fulfill targets of the program.
8 organizers including ZAST jointly initiated serial lectures of academicians under the program of “Zhijiang Forum”. The initiators also established expert groups and carried out exhibition tours to better communicate carbon knowledge. Featured activities were reported on media platforms to increase social influences.
The initiators contributed a featured science fair program to celebrate the 2021 National Science Popularization Day.
The fair was composed of 5 sections focusing on different perspectives of carbon knowledge including origin of carbon, future of carbon, test space of carbon, low carbon and my life and play carbon workshop.
Leading sci-tech enterprises including Chilwee and Suning, cultural and creative enterprises including Little Plus and A.U, and science venues including Hangzhou Low Carbon Science & Technology Museum and Qinshan Nuclear Power Science and Technology Museum participated in the science fair.
The fair set on-site reading, hands-on activities, mobile exhibits and evaluation programs to help the participants to acquire relevant knowledge and take actions for achieving the national goals of “peaking of emissions” and “carbon neutrality”.
Science communication serves senior citizens to get integrated into intelligent life
ZAST launched an action program to help the senior citizens to acquire digital knowledge since March this year, 3800 teaching centers were set up to provide 360000 person-time training for the senior citizens.
A micro drama "Lao Xing and his smartphone" depicted a story of a retired old man Lao Xing actively participated in the training course after experiencing some funny troubles when he used his smartphone, thus calling for the whole society to work together to promote the integration of the senior citizens into the intelligent life.
Science communication serves common prosperity
This year’s Science Popularization Day also display an action program of “Science communication to help 26 counties in mountain areas", 6 items including “Campus Science and Technology Museum” and “Youth and children's science reading” were expected to contribute to improving scientific literacy of Chinese citizens. It also showed the efforts to respond the Chinese authority’s recently introduced guidelines to ease the burden of excessive homework and off-campus tutoring for students undergoing compulsory education.
A special program was developed to introduce thousands of experts entering the campus to give popular science lectures and open thousands of science and technology bases to provide off-campus science educational activities.
The event lasted 3 days, and nearly 2000 popular science activities were carried out all over Zhejiang Province.
"Science Communication" is becoming a buzzword, and science will become a powerful driving force for chasing dreams in the future.
