Jointly organized by the Chengdu Association for Science and Technology of Sichuan Province, the Party’s working committee of the units directly under the municipal government of Chengdu, the Chengdu municipal bureau of education, the Chengdu Agricultural and Rural Bureau, the Chengdu Federation of Trade Unions and the Chengdu committee of the Communist Youth League, the 2021 knowledge competition to promote public scientific literacy in Chengdu started on August 26, 2021.
With the theme of "Let the light of science shine over Chengdu for people embracing a better life", the competition focuses on low-carbon lifestyle and relevant scientific knowledge and designs 5 sets of competition questions for the 5 key target groups of people including youngsters, industrial workers, farmers, the elderly and government officials according to the Outline of the National Scheme for Scientific Literacy (2021-2035) issued by the State Council in late June.
The event is divided into online and on-site sessions. The online session is from August 26 to September 9, and the on-site semi-finals and final is on September 29.
The online session is divided into 5 tracks, corresponding to 5 target groups of contestants respectively.
Each track covers 23 district or county-level sub-competition areas plus 1 special sub-track for officials of municipal organs.
Winners of the 5 tracks at the online session will be selected to form a 5-person team (one person from each track) to compete at the on-site semi-finals and final.
The event practices score accumulate system. At the semifinals, each team has to go through 3 rounds, and all teams are ranked according to their scores. The top 6 teams advance to the final. At the final, the selected 6 teams will compete on the same stage, through the four rounds of competition, 1 first prize, 2 second prize, 3 third prize will be generated at the end.
The event aims to stimulate citizens' enthusiasm for learning science and their awareness of science and innovation to form a sound atmosphere of loving science, emphasizing science and using science in the whole society, so as to improve the scientific literacy of the general public and lay a solid foundation for innovation-driven development to build China into a nation with strong power in science and technology.
