Meng Qinghai, Vice President and Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), went to Henan Science and Technology Museum (HSTM) to make on-site investigation and gave his guidance on the construction of the new HSTM on October 15, 2021.
Also present at the event were Wang Xinhui, Secretary of the Leading Party Members Group of the Henan Association for Science and Technology (HAST), Lyu Guofan, President of HAST, Fang Weiping, Vice President of HAST and Yang Jinhe, Deputy Inspector of HAST.
Meng Qinghai and his group visited the permanent exhibition halls of cosmic astronomy, animals’ home, creation and enjoyment space, children's paradise, exploration and discovery corridor, and the construction sites of public space and dome theater as well.
After listening to the introduction of the construction of the new HSTM, Meng Qinghai asked in detail about the scale, progress, layout, funding and exhibition construction of the new HSTM.
Meng fully affirmed the professional attitude of the staff members of the HSTM.
Meng pointed out that as a jumbo science and technology museum under construction in China, the new HSTM should play an important role in the construction of the national modern science and technology museum system, and become a base advocating the Spirit of the Chinese Scientists, providing cutting-edge science experiences, offering off-campus education programs of public security and health, collecting and demonstrating science education resources to help enhance scientific literacy of the general public in Henan Province.
Meng urged to embrace the concept of running science museums with an open attitude to fully demonstrate the value of science communication after the opening of the new HSTM.
Meng called on the HSTM to host exhibitions, conduct education and academic exchanges, establish sharing and co-constructing mechanism of science communication resources and plan the layout of the museum space carefully.
Meng asked the HSTM to actively interact with primary and secondary schools, well-known enterprises and other social institutions at all levels to keep the demonstration resources up with science frontiers.
We must make efforts to optimize exhibits and exhibitions, develop education programs and improve service abilities, concluded Meng.
Staff members of relevant departments of CAST, heads of the division of science popularization of HAST, and members of the leading group of the HSTM were present in the event.
