Shu Wei, executive secretary of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), met with World Health Organization (WHO) chief nursing officer Elizabeth Iro and International Council of Nurses (ICN) president Annette Kennedy in Beijing on September 6, 2019.
The two sides discussed how to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the field of medical and health care.

Shu Wei extended warm welcome to Elizabeth Iro and Annette Kennedy.
He noted that WHO and ICN, as important international health organizations, have made great contributions to human health.
He also expressed his appreciation for the strong support both organizations have given to the Celebration Cereomy for the 110th Anniversary of the Chinese Nursing Association (CNA) and its concurrent event - the Belt and Road International Nursing Congress.
He said that CAST would continue to support CNA to promote public good and pursue international exchanges, and hoped that CAST would cooperate more with WHO and ICN in the future.

Elizabeth Iro and Annette Kennedy thanked CAST for its reception.
While emphasizing the key role of nurses in advancing public hygiene and health care, they called for joint efforts to build up nursing capacity and education and create a better and healthier future for mankind.
They said that they looked forward to having more cooperation with CAST, especially in 2020, the “Year of the Nurse and Midwife.”
Also joining the meeting were CNA president Wu Xinjuan and vice pesident Li Zheng and officials of the CAST Department of International Affairs.
