The 50th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) took place in Tel Aviv, Israel from July 7 to 14, 2019.

The China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) organized an 11-strong team to take part and the team leader was from the Tsinghua University. The five student contestants were all winners of the Chinese Physics Olympiad, an extracurricular competition operated by CAST.
After fierce theoretical and practical examinations, the five contestants all won gold medals at the competition.
Sun Xiangkai from the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China won first places in theoretical examination and the overall competition. Sun Yifan from Zhenhai High School in Ningbo city, Zhejiang province won first place in practical examination.
During the competition, the organizer of the event arranged a variety of cultural, scientific and sports activities to promote understanding and friendship among participants from different countries.
The competition was sponsored by the Education Ministry of Israel and attracted 360 contestants from 78 countries and regions. A total of 34 gold medals, 66 silver medals and 101 bronze medals were given out.
The 51st IPhO will be hosted in Latvia in 2020.
