The Chinese delegation organised by CYSC took part in the 20th Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO2019) held between May 5th and 13th in Adelaide, Australia. The members of Chinese delegation consist of eight contestants out stood by China Physics Olympiad, five professors of Tsinghua University and one representative of CYSC.
After theoretical and experimental exams, five hours for each, Chinese delegation were competent to win six gold medals out of nine gold medals as whole, one silver medal and one bronze medal in the toughest Asian physics competition. The winner and runner-up in theoretical exam went to two Chinese gold medalists too. Two Russian contestants and one Israel contestant won the other three gold medals. The overall winner of APhO2019 went to a Russian contestant.
Besides two exams (theoretical and experimental) all the delegates were hosted to discover Adelaide on experiencing wildlife in Cleland Wildlife Park, visiting to South Australia Museum and head off to the Adelaide Oval for some Aussie sporting games. The contestants were also showcased around cutting-edge science facilities and met with some of the most passionate physicists in the Flinders University and the University of Adelaide.
This year in total 250 delegates from 25 countries and regions witnessed and participated in the 20th APhO. APhO is currently the premier physics competition for Asian and some European countries. It is modeled after the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), and demands a similar level of intellectual capability from the participants. Standing for China, CYSC supports and holds a team to take part in this event every year. In 2007 and 2015 CYSC took the pride and honour to organise twice APhO in China. Next year the 21st APhO will be held in Taiwan, China.
