The 2019 National Training and Exchange Program for Elite Teachers of Youth AI Education (First Session) takes place in Changsha, central China’s Hunan province from April 8 to 12, 2019.
The event aims to further promote AI popularization activities among teenagers and improve the capability of science instructors in guiding them to learn creative programming and intelligent design.
Sponsored by the Children and Youth Science Center (CYSC) of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and organized by the Children and Youth Science Center of Hunan Province, the event attracted over 80 elite teachers from 24 provincial-level regions.
The event comprised lectures on the history and future trends of AI education, Python programing and case studies, popularization and application of intelligent design, team-work show and presentation, and simulation contests.
Facilitated by experts, teachers worked in teams to create intelligent design works that incorporated the key and difficult points of their teaching practices, combine theory with practice and integrate innovation with creativity.
Participating teachers expressed the activities were novel, diversified, clear in its target, and rewarding. Three days of intense and fulfilling activities provided the teachers with opportunities to exchange views, learn new ideas, and improve skills. Many exemplary works were produced. All these laid a solid foundation for AI popularization among teenagers throughout the year.
In 2019, the CYSC will further explore youth AI education and collaborate with the China Association of Children’s Science Instructors to continue AI popularization among teenagers across the country.
The CYSC intends to create a "Carnival" of youth AI education to inspire young people to take part in programming and AI activities by fostering a group of pilot schools and institutions for AI teaching activities, introducing to the public AI course resource kits, conducting online exploring activities and hosting events such as the National Youth Creative Programming and Intelligent Design Contest. It is a part of overall efforts to develop young generation’s scientific literacy and scientific spirit.
