The 30th European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS) was held from September 14th through 19th in Dublin Ireland. The Chinese delegation consisting of three young scientists selected from China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest (CASTIC), led by Mrs. Lin Liqin, Secretary General of China Association of Children's Science Instructors (CACSI) participated in the EUCYS2018.
After three days’ five rounds judging session, the project of Chinese contestant Zhang Sijia from High School attached to Jilin University, stood out among 89 projects in EUCYS2018 and was awarded the third place prize, which is the core prize of EUCYS2018 and the top prize ever won by Chinese contestants in this event.
Chinese contestant Wang Qingyang from No.2 Secondary School Attached to East China Normal University, was awarded a special award presented by Ireland Science Foundation.
In 2018 139 young scientists from 38 nations took part in EUCYS2018. The President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins attended the opening ceremony and delivered a welcome speech to all the participants.
EUCYS is a science event first launched by the European Commission in 1989 with an aim to promote cooperation and exchange between young scientists. It is also a part of the European Union Framework Program on Research. Children and Youth Science Center of CAST (CYSC) organizes and sponsors excellent Chinese young scientists every year to compete in this event beginning from 2002.
