Wang Kangyou, General Director of CRISP, participated in the strategic cooperation release conference on “China Science Communication+Baidu” on July 21st, 2015,it was jointly held by CAST and Baidu. On that day, Shang Yong, Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Secretary of CAST, led a team to attend the launching ceremony and paid a visit to Baidu concerning informatizaiton work on science communication. The first edition of the report was jointly released by Department for Science Communication, CAST; CRISP; and Baidu.
Shang Yong’s remarks during the visit virtually provided practical guidance for science communication research under the context of informatization. He stressed that “multiple channels should be used for this end, we should cooperate extensively with a large number of institutes, universities and organizations so as to foster a new co-building model for informatization on science communication”. He also stressed that “ we should give full play to Baidu, the largest search engine in China so far, and make it be instrumental in offering us tremendous help in this regard. Pertaining to the public need for science communication, we should not only stay focused on hot social issues, but also attach great importance to their content and substance.”
Xu Yanhao, Executive Secretary of CAST, and Zhu Guang,Vice President of Baidu, made their respective remarks at the release conference. They stressed that such new cooperation model will definitely contribute enormously to the enhancement of scientific literacy for all the Chinese people during the times where big data is potentially tapped and utilized, in this way, an increasing number of people will gain easy access to sharing benefits largely from science communication.
CRISP got active involvement in the drafting and writing parts of the report, to put it specifically, CRISP was in charge of framework design, data mining and analysis, as well as the writing of the report. From 2015 on, a report in this regard will be released quarterly.
The Cover of “Report on Searching Behavior of Chinese Netizens’ Need for Science Communication”.
In the report, it is clear to us that the average value per day for science communication search index increased from 2.51 million to 7 million, the search index for netizens’ need for science communication increased exponentially. For example, People from different regions have different needs for science communication, young and middle-aged netizens become the main force in this regard, what people cared about most is something having to do with their daily life(climate change, environmental protection, health, and medicine,etc.), they ,in most cases, obtain the information through instant search engine installed on the mobile terminals. It is suggested in the report that great efforts should be made in carrying out science communication on the internet as much as possible and reducing the gap among different regions and different generations in terms of gaining access to science communication information.
“China Science Communication Baidu Science College ” was officially announced to be established that day. Science College will play its due role in the service enhancement of science communication ,and meanwhile contribute to the increasing index of scientific literacy in China.
